Meets every 1st Thursday of each month
***No meetings in January, July, and December***
Leader: MaryJo Meer
San Diego County Foster Parent Association- offers foster, kinship, and adoptive caregivers a comfortable space to learn, connect, and feel supported. Through practical education, helpful resources, and meaningful conversation, participants can strengthen their caregiving skills, build community with others who understand the foster care journey, and earn training credits on topics such as trauma-informed care, behavior management, and positive discipline.
Topic: Caring for children and families who have experienced trauma can be deeply meaningful-but it can also take a toll. This class offers resource parents a supportive space to better understand compassion fatigue, secondary trauma, and vicarious trauma, and how these experiences can affect emotional well-being over time.
Participants will gain practical tools for recognizing the signs of compassion fatigue, protecting their mental health, and building realistic strategies for renewal and resilience. Whether you are new to caregiving or have been supporting children for years, this class will help you care for yourself with the same compassion and commitment you offer to others.
For our training & support meetings, all participants must have their cameras on, regardless of whether they are seeking credit or not. This requirement is designed to encourage full engagement and connection among participants, fostering a more supportive atmosphere within our community. Please note that individuals unable to participate with their cameras on will not be able to join the sessions.
