Instructor: Michelle McGowan, Special Education Advocate
Michelle is a dedicated Special Education Advocate with over 20 years of experience supporting students with disabilities, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Emotional Disturbance, and Intellectual Impairment. She is also involved in the District Attorney’s Juvenile Diversion Initiative, where she works to keep youth diploma-bound, collaborates with schools to overturn expulsions, and empowers parents to understand their children’s educational rights.
Description:Effective advocacy begins with clear communication and preparation. This workshop provides practical tools to help caregivers communicate with school teams, document concerns, prepare for difficult meetings, and navigate disagreements constructively. Participants will learn strategies for staying calm under pressure while advocating confidently for their child’s educational needs.
