Online | Supportive Strategies for Resource Homes- Training & Support: The Value of Affirmation
Meets 4th Wednesday of the Month
**no meeting in December**
Support Group Leader: MaryJo Meer
Supportive Strategies for Resource Homes– A trauma-informed training and support class for resource parents, including foster, kinship, and adoptive families. This group is a place to come as you are, connect with people who understand the journey, share real experiences, and learn practical tools that can help at home. Our goal is for caregivers to leave feeling supported, encouraged, and less alone.
Topic: Words have power! Especially for children who are learning how to see themselves after difficult early experiences. In this class, resource families will discover how positive affirmations can help foster children build healthier self-esteem, develop a more hopeful outlook, and begin to believe in their own worth and abilities.
We will explore how negative thought patterns can develop, why many foster children struggle with feelings of guilt, anger, hopelessness, or low self-worth, and how consistent messages of encouragement can help reshape a child’s belief system. Caregivers will leave with practical, everyday strategies for using affirmation to nurture confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of self in the children they support.
For our training & support meetings, all participants must have their cameras on, regardless of whether they are seeking credit or not. This requirement is designed to encourage full engagement and connection among participants, fostering a more supportive atmosphere within our community. Please note that individuals unable to participate with their cameras on will not be able to join the sessions.
