Instructor: Allison Davis Maxon, LMFT
About: Allison Davis Maxon is a nationally recognized expert in Complex Developmental Trauma and children’s mental health specializing in Attachment and Permanency/Adoption. She is a mother, a trauma therapist and an author/lecturer. Join Allison for a journey into the emotional demands and challenges parents experience as they attach and parent children and teens with core losses and developmental trauma. The series will use The Seven Core Issues Workbook for Parents of Traumatized Children and Teens: A Guide to Help You Explore Feelings and Overcome Emotional Challenges in Your Family.
Children who have experienced sexual abuse or exploitation carry deep relational wounds that can impact their sense of safety, trust, and identity. This powerful two-part training will help caregivers and professionals understand the complex psychological, emotional, and neurobiological effects of these traumas—and how to support healing.
Learn how trauma impacts the developing brain and body, how to recognize signs of distress and premature sexualization, and how to respond using developmentally appropriate, strength-based tools that support safety, connection, and growth.
Tools You’ll Walk Away With:
- Recognize behavioral and emotional signs of sexual abuse and exploitation
- Understand how these experiences affect a child’s self-worth, relationships, and development
- Explore trauma responses such as Fight/Flight/Freeze, and how to support healing using brain-based strategies
- Learn practical approaches to foster felt safety, co-regulation, and narrative healing
- Gain tools to support children with sexually reactive or self-harming behaviors
This two part training offers a compassionate and clinical framework to help you become a safe, grounded adult in a child’s healing journey.
