Instructor: Dr. David Adams Dr. David Adams is a proud adoptive parent with two teens who has somehow managed to keep his sanity in the process as a single parent. He is an expert trainer at Foster Kinship Care Education through Saddleback College and the author of the newly released book “Trauma-Informed Foster and Adoptive Parenting.” He is also a former pastor, a licensed psychologist, a part-time professor, and the President of New Life Psychology Group in Orange County. Through his professional and lived wisdom, his task is to give families hope that they can succeed in their Resource Parenting journey so children can heal from their potentially traumatic histories and live purposeful lives. Description: Resource Parenting is tough! Sometimes, foster and adoptive parents lose hope when they experience challenging and oppositional child behaviors, leading to helplessness, more stress, or even disrupting the placement. As a result, this causes additional harm, distrust, and hurt to the child, when all that is happening is the child communicating an unmet need. In this workshop, foster/adoptive parents and professionals will come to better understand the symptoms of trauma as well as learn how to implement positive behavioral supports to help manage their foster and adoptive child’s behaviors. You will learn how trauma impacts the brain, behavior, and health outcomes, including yours! Resource parents will also learn specific strategies to maintain their own sanity when chaos abounds because most of the time parenting comes from within—our own traumas and/or our own parenting histories. Bookings are closed for this event.
