Online | The Grief Series with Wendy Kessler – Part 1: Introduction to Understanding the Grieving Process
Six Part Series
Even though loss is the most universal experience we share, most people have never learned how to grieve. Our societal avoidance of grief is what causes us to be stuck in the pain of loss because grieving is how we create a path forward as we process difficult emotions, adapt to unwanted changes, develop coping ability, and build resilience. This Grief & Loss Series is a comprehensive, six-session course that teaches grieving as an essential life skill, enables caregivers to offer grief-informed care, and equips participants with strategies and tools to effectively support people living with loss.
Instructor: Wendy Kessler, Grief Expert
Wendy is a Grief Specialist. She is credentialed as a Fellow in Thanatology (the study of death, dying, and bereavement) by the Association of Death Education and Counseling and is certified as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Wendy’s approach to grief work is characterized by nonjudgmental, compassionate, strengths-based counseling and the belief that grieving is an essential life skill that must be learned. Her support services include individual counseling, group facilitation, team training, and corporate consulting. When the path forward through loss is uncertain, it helps to have a guide.
Description: This session normalizes grief as our natural response to loss, and it reframes grieving as an active process that eases the burden of loss. Participants will understand grief as a dynamic, whole-person experience that affects all aspects of our being, including our emotions, mind, body, and existential self. This training will equip participants with the insight and practices that enable youth and their caregivers to understand the benefits of grieving, build resilience in the face of adversity, cope with grief emotions, and grow stronger through loss as life moves forward.
Note: While you are welcome to register for each individual part, if you register for part 1 you will automatically be enrolled in all parts.
