North County Foster Parent Association- In-person foster parent training and supports are hosted at Straight from the Heart (SFTH) in collaboration with the North County Foster Parent Association (NCFPA). These meetings provide a supportive environment for foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers to share experiences, navigate the child welfare system, and earn required training hours.
Visit Straight from the Heart- Families are welcome to visit the Shop, located next door to the training room, either before or after the support group. Free new items will always be available for our resource and adoptive families.
Topic: “Epigenetics” is an emerging area of scientific research that shows how environmental influences—children’s experiences—affect the expression of their genes. During development, the DNA that makes up our genes accumulates chemical marks that determine how much or little of the genes is expressed. This collection of chemical marks is known as the “epigenome.” The different experiences children have rearranged those chemical marks. This means the old idea that genes are “set in stone” has been disproven. Nature vs. Nurture is no longer a debate. It’s nearly always both! Come learn about this exciting area of research.
