Part 4 of the Mindfulness series

Mindfulness is the practice of being present to one’s experience with loving attention, which studies have shown helps reduce stress and promotes well‐being.

In this class students will learn to recognize emotions and how they impact our bodies and minds. Bringing mindfulness to emotions and naming them as they arise is a powerful tool for attending with kindness to our emotional world. Participants are taught how not to be mentally hijacked by challenging emotions, but rather work with them skillfully and lessen reactivity. Practiced over time, mindfulness of emotions leads to more harmonious relationships with loved ones and the world at large. A private and quiet space is recommended for participation in this class as well as a blanket or yoga mat, chair and loose‐fitting clothes.

Special Guest Presenter: Bettina Heitmann, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher

Bettina Heitmann is a graduate of the 2‐year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, sponsored by the University of California Berkeley Greater Good Science Center. She has practiced meditation and yoga for 20 years and finds these practices to be hugely beneficial for people living in this fast paced and high stress society. Bettna was a social worker with Child Welfare Services, including the bilingual Adoptions Unit, and non‐profit social service agencies for 13 years. She has a particular interest in bringing mindfulness teachings to benefit Resource parents and children.
