Guest Speaker: Dr. Keisha Clark, Ex.C.E.L
Dr. Keisha Clark is the Program Coordinator for the CWS Office of Equity, where she leads efforts to create an antiracist system by addressing racial bias, disproportionality, and disparities impacting African American and Immigrant/Refugee families, as well as gender and sexual minorities (GSM). A native of New Orleans and a trauma-informed leader, Dr. Clark collaborates with community and institutional partners to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, enhance workforce representation, and improve outcomes for families and children. With expertise in cultural competence and resilience, her work has influenced public, private, and academic sectors nationally and internationally
Description: It is not uncommon for a communication exchange to inadvertently become controversial. Did you know that we all have different styles of communication based on our culture? This session covers the basic principles of cultural humility and helps individuals develop awareness of their own cultural perspective and lens. It provides an understanding of the many cultural groups (intersectionality) we are all part of and how these identities shape our views, communication styles, bias, and values. We will learn how to foster healthy communication exchanges using micro‐affirmations and the exploration of the four emotional intelligence skills: self‐awareness, self‐ management, social awareness, and relationship management.
