Part 2 of the Mindfulness Series

Description: Mindfulness is the practice of being present to one’s experience with loving attention, which studies have shown helps reduce stress and promotes wellbeing. In this class students will explore the essence of compassion practice; an invitation to turn towards suffering. Suffering, as much as happiness, is part of the human experience and we can learn to offer compassion in a way that doesn’t lead to compassion fatigue. The intention of the class is to help students experience how compassion can strengthen our well‐being rather than deplete it.

Special Guest Presenter: Bettina Heitmann, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher

Bettina Heitmann is a graduate of the 2‐year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, sponsored by the University of California Berkeley Greater Good Science Center. She has practiced meditation and yoga for 20 years and finds these practices to be hugely beneficial for people living in this fast paced and high stress society. Bettna was a social worker with Child Welfare Services, including the bilingual Adoptions Unit, and non‐profit social service agencies for 13 years. She has a particular interest in bringing mindfulness teachings to benefit Resource parents and children.
