Part 3 of the Mindfulness Series

Description: Mindfulness is the practice of being present to one’s experience with loving attention, which studies have shown helps reduce stress and promotes wellbeing. This class introduces mindfulness practices that invite more moments of joy and happiness into our lives. From neuroscience we know that humans have inherited a real negativity bias. We look for threats in our environment to help us survive. We are not wired to notice what’s going well or take in the good. Students will learn ways to incline the mind towards joy, gratitude and a sense of well‐being.

Special Guest Presenter: Bettina Heitmann, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher

Bettina Heitmann is a graduate of the 2‐year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, sponsored by the University of California Berkeley Greater Good Science Center. She has practiced meditation and yoga for 20 years and finds these practices to be hugely beneficial for people living in this fast paced and high stress society. Bettna was a social worker with Child Welfare Services, including the bilingual Adoptions Unit, and non‐profit social service agencies for 13 years. She has a particular interest in bringing mindfulness teachings to benefit Resource parents and children.
