Online | Celebrating the Holidays with Foster and Adoptive Children
The holidays are typically associated with cheer, family, food, and joy. For children in foster care, conflicting loyalties and lost dreams can often cause the holidays to be a difficult time. Feelings of sadness and loss can also be more heightened for youth in foster care, which can cause an array of emotions and behaviors during the holiday season. As a Resource Parent, it is vital to understand your child’s unique emotional experiences, their amplified feelings of grief and loss, and the importance of providing a safe space for expression and validation. Learning about strategies for nurturing inclusivity and connection will help Resource Parents develop tools and insights on creating a supportive and inclusive holiday environment blending past traditions and new memories.
