In Person | Exploring Childhood Trauma and The Developing Brain with special guest speaker Dr. Megan W. Zappitelli
Special Guest Speaker Dr. Megan Zappitelli’s specialty is pediatric psychiatry. These areas are among Dr. Zappitelli’s clinical interests: psychiatric evaluation, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and consultation. She is an in-network provider for several insurance carriers, including Amerigroup, Coventry, and HealthSmart. She obtained her medical school training at Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine and performed her residency at a hospital affiliated with the University of Kentucky. Her hospital/clinic affiliations include Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, Seton Mind Institute, and Greenville Health System (GHS).
Description: Presented by Dr. Megan W. Zappitelli from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, this workshop will provide Resource Families with an overview of the typical brain organization and childhood development to help better understand the impact of traumatic experiences on the development of the brain including the psychological, developmental, as well as the neurological impacts of early adverse experiences. Resource Parents will be provided with tools for assessing and understanding traumatized, neglected and abused children and learn about developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed treatment options for children with these experiences. Lastly, families will learn about the healing power of relationships and community.
