Online | Screen Time and It’s Effects on Health
According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the average American child aged 8 to 12 spends 4 to 6 hours daily engaged with screens, while teenagers can spend up to 9 hours a day. Excessive screen time can result in various negative effects, including sleep deprivation, eye and body strain, and difficulties in social interaction. Additionally, it may contribute to issues such as low self-esteem, mood disturbances, cyberbullying, and exposure to risky behaviors depicted in online videos. Guardians participating in this class will gain insights into the diverse impacts of excessive screen time, learn strategies for developing a screen-time plan for their families, and discover ways to promote screen-free activities.
