SUMMARY:Online | San Diego County Foster Parent Association (SDCFPA)-Traini
ng & Support: Promoting Protective Factors for Children and Youth in Foste
 r Care
DESCRIPTION:Meets every 1st Thursday of each month\n***No meetings in Janua
 ry\, July\, and December***\nLeader: MaryJo Meer\n\nSan Diego County Foste
r Parent Association- offers foster\, kinship\, and adoptive caregivers a
comfortable space to learn\, connect\, and feel supported. Through practic
al education\, helpful resources\, and meaningful conversation\, participa
nts can strengthen their caregiving skills\, build community with others w
ho understand the foster care journey\, and earn training credits on topic
s such as trauma-informed care\, behavior management\, and positive discip
line.\n\nTopic: It is important to focus on protective factors because yo
uth in foster care are often exposed to multiple risk factors\, putting th
em at greater risk for poorer outcomes. Protective factors\, such as indiv
iduals\, families\, or the larger society who can promote their well-being
and be a positive influence or strong support system\, can reduce the ri
sk for negative outcomes. Protective factors are much different than inte
rvention and prevention efforts. Although helpful and intended to reduce
risk factor exposure\, they may also take longer to show evidence of impac
t.\n\nFor our training &amp\; support meetings\, all participants must hav
e their cameras on\, regardless of whether they are seeking credit or not.
This requirement is designed to encourage full engagement and connection
among participants\, fostering a more supportive atmosphere within our com
munity. Please note that individuals unable to participate with their came
ras on will not be able to join the sessions.\n***Please Note: This class
will be facilitated on the Zoom platform.\n Internet access and access to
a computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone is required to attend.\nWe kindly requ
