Road to Recovery: Supporting Children with Intellectual and Developmental Delays provides an overview for resource parents on how to work with children who are living with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD) and have experienced trauma.

The Road to Recovery: Supporting Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Who Have Experienced Trauma consists of a participant manual that is designed to teach basic knowledge, skills, and values about working with children with IDD who have had traumatic experiences, and how to use this knowledge to support children’s safety, well-being, happiness, and recovery through trauma-informed practice.

The goals for this workshop are for resource parents to understand that children with intellectual/development disabilities (IDD) experience mental health conditions, as well as understand the various ways that children with IDD experience trauma and the impact trauma have on children with IDD.

Lastly, this workshop seeks for resource parents to understand the importance of trauma-informed care for children with IDD and how the information and tools from the workshop can be used to improve provider/caregiver capacity for provision of trauma-informed care for children with IDD. Don’t miss out on this valuable educational opportunity. Curriculum created by The National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
