Just as children in foster care have lived through trauma, many of their parents have histories of their own childhood or adult trauma. These experiences, if left unaddressed, can continue to impact individuals well into adulthood. Parents’ past or present trauma can make it difficult for them to work effectively with case workers and resource parents toward reunification with their children. This workshop will help resource parents understand the effects of trauma on birth parents and what those traumatic experiences can result in; such as difficulty in keeping themselves and their children safe, coping in unhealthy ways, or have a hard time controlling their emotions, etc. This workshop will help resource parents understand the importance of working together with birth parents and establishing a good relationship that promotes child safety, permanence and well‐being.
