Class Cancelled

(A class specifically for Kinship Relative Caregivers)

Instructors: Heidi Blue, MSW & Dannette Shevlin, Resource Kinship Parent

This class will include the short documentary “Why Can’t We Be A Family Again” and the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s “Unique Challenges of Kinship Caregivers” curriculum to assist participants in exploratory conversations around kinship caregiving. The instructors, along with videos of Dr. Joseph Crumbley, will guide participants through conversations around loss, ambivalence, guilt, hope, and denial when a family is faced with the decision to provide kinship care on a temporary or permanent basis.

Lastly, participants will learn how kinship care changes impact family dynamics, roles, responsibilities, authority and loyalties among members of the kinship triad and extended family and how these changes can result in challenges that may affect a caregivers’ ability to provide safety, permanency, and well-being for the youth in their care.

Please note, no childcare is provided or available onsite. Do not bring babies or children to class. Thank you!
